How it works

  1. Ask for a pickup

Send the form, or text me the make and model of the baby gear you want refreshed. I'll reply within 24 hours with your total.

  2. I pick it up

Leave your baby gear on your porch during the time window we agree on. I'll let you know once it's picked up. I even secure your car seat for the ride to make sure there's no shifting or damage on the way.

  3. I clean it

I thoroughly clean your baby gear as the manual directs, and I make sure all fabrics and pieces are fully dry before I reassemble it.

  4. I bring it back

Returned to you in less than 24 hours, refreshed and ready for your tiny passenger!

How I clean your seat

All car seat brands publish online manuals with care and cleaning instructions. I find the exact manual for your make and model using the manufacturer number on your car seat, so every detailing and washing step is done exactly the way the manufacturer intended. If you know the brand and model, add it in the form, or text me a photo of the label.

Line drawing of a car seat with its four parts labeled A to D
A Cover
Taken off and washed following its care tag, then air-dried.
B Harness straps
Spot-cleaned on the seat with a damp cloth and mild soap.
C Buckle and chest clip
Rinsed with warm water only, no soap or lubricant. Then I test them to make sure they click.
D Shell, foam and base
Crumbs vacuumed out of every crevice and the belt path, the shell wiped down, and everything fully air-dried before the cover goes back on.

What I never do to your seat

  • Soak or machine-wash the harness straps
  • Use bleach, disinfectant sprays or household cleaners
  • Use vinegar, steam or essential oils
  • Put soap or lubricant in a buckle
  • Dry anything with heat
  • Take the harness off a seat whose manual says to leave it on

These rules come from car seat makers' own cleaning instructions. If your seat's manual says something different, I follow it.

I wash covers with Noodle & Boo detergent, a gentle, baby-safe product. Prefer fragrance-free? Just ask and I'll use Tide Free & Gentle instead. For the shell, I use Seventh Generation Free & Clear, a plant-based cleaner with no fragrance or dyes.

The harness is what holds your child in a crash. Soaking and harsh cleaners can weaken it, and you can't see that kind of damage.

When to book a cleaning

  • A stomach bug or a diaper blowout in the car. It gets into the straps, the buckle and the foam under the cover, and none of that can go in the washing machine. That's what the sick-day clean is for.

  • Milk in a hot car. One sippy cup under the seat in July and the whole car knows. The smell ends up in the foam.

  • The infant seat is going to baby number two. Give it a fresh start before the new baby rides in it.

  • Moving with the military, or selling. Get the seats and stroller cleaned before they sit in a hot moving truck for weeks, or before they go up on Marketplace or out at the PCS yard sale.

  • Or it's just been a while. Crumbs, juice and sunscreen build up even without one big mess.

The heart behind SafeSeat Cleaning Co.

A huge thank you to this community for such a warm welcome!

SafeSeat was born out of a passion for helping overwhelmed mothers. My goal is simple: to take one heavy task off your plate while making sure your gear is in the safest possible hands. Safe is in the name because that is my #1 priority from the time I pick up your car seat until it's returned. You can rest assured I take every safety precaution, just as I would for my own child's car seat.

I'm the one who answers your texts, picks up your seat, cleans it and puts it back together.

I only clean car seats and kid gear.

Questions you might have

How long will I be without my seat?

Usually less than 24 hours. I typically pick up in the evening and return it the next morning at times that work for you. Same-day cleaning depends on availability. Pickup is from your porch, so you don't need to be home.

Is it safe to clean harness straps?

Yes, if it's done right. Seat makers say straps shouldn't be soaked, machine-washed or cleaned with harsh products, because that can weaken the webbing. I spot-clean them by hand with mild soap and water.

Will it go back together right?

Yes. I put it back together by your seat's manual and check that the buckle and chest clip click. I do adjust the headrest and chest clip while cleaning, so please reset them to fit your child before your next ride. You'll reinstall it in your car. If you'd like someone to look over the install, Safe Kids Mid-Texas in Temple and Texas DSHS Safe Riders run free car seat checks.

Will every stain and smell come out?

Most stains do, though some old ones only fade. The smell is a different story: I guarantee your seat will come back smelling refreshed.

What about a really bad mess, or mold?

Vomit and blowouts are fine. Please book within 12 hours of the accident, and the sick-day fee is up to $40. For safety reasons, I can't clean seats with mold or mildew. If you find mold, the seat maker can usually tell you about replacement parts.

What do you clean with? Is it scented?

Covers are washed with Noodle & Boo detergent, a gentle, baby-safe product. Prefer fragrance-free? Just ask and I'll use Tide Free & Gentle instead. For the shell, I use Seventh Generation Free & Clear, a plant-based cleaner with no fragrance or dyes. No bleach or disinfectant sprays. If anyone in your house has allergies, put it in the notes.

What if my seat is a hand-me-down, expired, or has been in a crash?

Seats expire, usually 6 to 10 years after they're made. After a crash, many seat makers say to replace the seat even if the crash was minor, so check your manual. You can look up recalls at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

How often should a seat be cleaned?

There's no official rule. Many families do it every few months, and right after any sickness or accident.
